JAMES BROWN IS ANNIE
Apr 20 @ 10:00 pm – 11:45 pm

One of the UK’s most accessible soul-funk-jazz artists, James Brown Is Annie met in a piano bar, rehearse next to a sex shop, and take their name from an Eddie Murphy Saturday Night Live sketch.

Supported by National Arts body, Creative Scotland, the group’s two albums (JBiA I and JBiA II) were produced by original Average White Band members Molly Duncan (2015) and Hamish Stuart (2018).

Regulars on Scottish national television and radio, JBiA’s second single, Get Up To Get Down, was a BBC Radio Scotland ‘Single Of The Week’ in April 2016.

The only band to have headlined two different stages at the famous Edinburgh Hogmanay Street Party (Waverley Stage 2012, Mound Stage 2017), playing to over 80,000 people, the Scottish sextet have shared stages with some of music’s top recording artists (Average White Band, The Family Stone, Kaiser Chiefs, Electric Six, etc.) at some of the country’s most prestigious venues, selling out many along the way.

THE MOODS
Apr 27 @ 10:00 pm – 11:30 pm
The Moods are a ten-piece collective of producers, poets and musicians from the Northwest of England. Combining drum & bass, reggae, hip-hop and EDM, The Moods’ mighty music sparks off a contagious need to dance, underpinned, with real grit & substance. They are a band with plenty to say, singing and rapping with raw passion about the important stuff like war, famine, love, life and death. This is music for the head & heart, “They will make you dance, and then they’ll make you think”.
•••••••••••••••
The Moods have been wisely described as “Rage Against the Machine, The Prodigy and The Happy Mondays mixed into a grime-soufflé”. Formed in Manchester in 2014, this 10-strong band unifies rap, brass and strings, delivering a brilliant fusion of drum & bass, hip-hop, reggae and EDM. All ten Moods bringing their own unique style and energy to every single live set, meaning their mighty music always sparks off a contagious need to dance from the very first song on the setlist. What’s more, their lyrics are relatable and real; this is music to make you think, as well as dance. With such a dizzying mix of instruments and passionate performers, their gigs are nothing short of spectacular. “It’s all about the BPM,” say bassist Dave O’Rourke, “and the feel of playing it live”.
The Moods’ debut album Missing Peace was released in September 2017 and rapidly made a phenomenal impact, with physical and download sales in over 24 countries, hundreds of thousands of streams and stellar reviews. Two powerful singles: Joy and P.O.P (Profit over People) received multiple plays on BBC Radio Lancashire & Sheffield, along with 35 other UK, regional and student FM stations. Further afield, global internet radio stations broadcasted tracks from Missing Peace to over 100 countries, whilst videos racked up in excess of 40,000 views on YouTube, Facebook, & Vevo TV.
