What’s on at Hootananny and Mad Hatters

For 17 years, Hootananny has been promoting the best grass roots music in Scotland. Mumford and Sons, Sam Fender, Little Boots, Dougie Mclean and Skerryvore have all played the venue. The building is a lovely traditional Victorian Inverness old sweety shop with traditional and fusion Scottish ceilidh and celtic rock downstairs. Emerging original artists, indy, hiphop, heavy metal, ska and rock upstairs on the Madhatters stage. Djs in the Glow bar on the top floor. The family run business has been awarded Scotland’s Best Live Music Venue 2019 by Scottish Bar and Pub Awards and Best Inverness Pub of the Year, 8 years running, by Inverness City Advertiser. Open daily for pub drinkers, we have a delicious Scottish menu of traditional dishes cooked to perfection from 5-10pm daily

Mad Hatters monthly comedy night The Comedy Bothy returns to Mad Hatters for 2019 with special guest Monty Burns.
The Liverpool comic has performed across yeh country at the likes of Breakneck Comedy Club, Laughing Horse, Gonzos and Laugh Train Home whilst receiving high praise from the likes of:
“Striking, strident comedy packed with emotion and pathos to make you laugh and make you think” – BBC
Really enjoyed his set, very funny” – Johnny Vegas
He may not own the nuclear powerplant in Springfield but he is hilariously funny

Spring Break are a vaguely outrageous, psychedelic 3 piece folk funk outfit, hand crafting screwball anthems deep in the Highlands of Scotland. Amalgamating a wealth of experience in vocal performance and musicianship, whilst fusing the hip hop languages of scratching, beat-boxing and lucid lyricism with the foibles of apathy and the implied abuse of aquatic life.

Amy Henderson is from the outskirts of Inverness, and plays the Accordion, whistle, step dancing, and she can also turn her hand to singing here and there! Her playing is a blend of many different styles influenced by musicians she has met along her musical path in various genres including Cajun,Scottish and blues.

With a roguish charm and signature style that elevates them far above the dusty stereotypes of the genre, AFP are a band that have one central goal and that is to get you to abandon all of the outside world’s hang-ups and move. The brainchild of four likeminded musicians with a wealth of originality and technical skill at their disposal, you only need to catch the briefest glimpse of one of their live shows to feel an insatiable urge to make your way into the crowd and let loose!

The Tennshann Invasion Band is known for the sound of ska or roots rock reggae foundation music Tennshann Invasion band was formed in 2007 at the Montego Bay boys and girls club where all present members was a part of the youth organization. The band was created by Mark Gooden otherwise called Ferly and the late great David Cunningham aka sleepy both saxophonist and professional musicians who saw great potential in the band members which started off as a ska music band and later added the genre roots reggae and studied a wide variety of music, after a few years they dominated the JCDC all island concert band competition where they won best community band, best sounding band, best junior band and also the number one band from the competition, As they grow the chemistry flow they started making their own music which didn’t linger too far from their foundation music ska and roots reggae, they have a new single out right now titled Tennshann Invasion – good morning Jamaica, and a few more recordings in the pipe line, the members of the band are hashley Patterson guitarist, Brandon Daley drummer , Norman Boswell trumpeter, Yhendi Lewis saxophonist, Aljarome green keyboardist , Collin farquharson keyboardist, Omeesh James bass guitarist, Kemal Amersingh otherwise known as ShawtCut the lead vocalist and Mark Gooden the manager, they made their appearance on stages such as Reggae sumfest, jazz and blues fest, Jamaica independence show, stepping high annual weed fest just to name a few, their mission is to spread the positive message and offer the live sounds of good music to the ears of people who appreciate good music as well as to stair roots reggae music and ska to the ears of the youths and make a difference
