What’s on at Hootananny and Mad Hatters

For 19 years, Hootananny has been promoting the best grass roots music in Scotland. Mumford and Sons, Sam Fender, Jake Bugg, Dougie Mclean and Skerryvore have all played the venue.

The building is a lovely traditional Victorian Inverness old sweety shop with traditional Scottish music on our ground floor and indie, hiphop, ska and rock upstairs on the Madhatters stage.

The family run business has been awarded Scotland’s Best Live Music Venue 2019 by Scottish Bar and Pub Awards and Best Inverness Pub of the Year, 8 years running, by Inverness City Advertiser. Open daily for pub drinkers, we have a delicious Scottish menu of traditional dishes cooked to perfection from 6 pm.

Pizza Crunch Support from The Dazed Digital Age & Katie Gregson-Macleod
Aug 13 @ 8:00 pm

Finding one another from different ends of Scotland, Pizza Crunch embrace a range of influences. Prompt lyrical commentary that veers from the elucidation of somber hedonism to trivializing the emotionally painful, along with distinct, novel guitar lines and a driving rhythm section make Pizza Crunch one of Glasgow’s most exciting exports.

After a steady stream of releases garnered attention from BBC 6 Radio Music, the group played a string of sold out shows at venues like The Hug and Pint and King Tuts in Glasgow. This preempted shows further a field at Left of the Dial in Rotterdam and Stockton Calling. After a year of writing, home-recording and collaborations with established producers, the band are ready to unveil a new project that is much more explorative in sound than their previous releases.

Paul Thompson – Lone Star Tour – Mad Hatter’s Bar, Inverness with Susanna Wolfe.
Aug 18 @ 8:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Lone Star - A4 Tour Posters - Hootenanny's

Paul Thompson is a singer-songwriter and author from Norfolk. He has
toured in the UK, Europe, the US and Canada, and holds a Guinness
World Record for ‘the longest journey by electric milk float’, after touring
over 1,000 miles at 15mph to the Edinburgh Fringe, in his solar-powered
milk float stage ‘Bluebell’.
Paul’s latest album release ‘Lone Star’ includes a specially written book
of short-stories, based on the songs from the album. Described by
Acoustic Magazine as ‘blissed out Donovan meets John Martyn’, Paul’s
live show combines music, literature, and tales of the ups and downs
(and breakdowns!) of life on the road in an electric milk float.
Paul will be joined by Susanna Wolfe, who Paul first met at Belladrum
Festival, when Susanna performed from ‘The Milk Float Stage’. Trained
as a classical vocalist, Susanna’s early influences were Irish folk songs
and opera. However, as she became older, Susanna discovered rock
music, which was to become her first love.
As well as being a singer-songwriter and performer in her own right,
Susanna has also worked as a session vocalist, for Martin Stephenson
on many of the albums he has produced, both for himself and other
artists. Susanna’s latest album, “Mantras for Modern Times” (released
end of June via Bandcamp) epitomises the diversity of musical genres
that she has embraced over the years.
Paul and Susanna will both be performing their new albums at Mad
Hatter’s, for an intimate evening of heart-felt original acoustic songs.
Prepare to be floated!
